1. Functional Observer Design for Descriptor Systems

• Development of reduced-order observers that reconstruct only the specific internal quantity of interest, rather than the entire state of a constrained system.

2. Estimation Under Unknown Inputs

• Recovery of target quantities even when the system is affected by external disturbances or influences that cannot be directly measured or tracked.
• Analysis of how unknown inputs appearing in both the system dynamics and the sensor measurements affect what can and cannot be reliably estimated.

3. Robust Estimation via H∞ Filtering

• Design of observers that remain reliable under worst-case noise and modelling uncertainty, rather than only under ideal conditions.
• Extension of the functional observer framework into an H∞-filtering setting to improve robustness for real-world, noisy measurements.

4. Applied and Biomedical Estimation

• Application of robust functional observer theory to physiological monitoring, using the cardiovascular system as a case study.
• Demonstration of how constrained-system estimation methods can support real-world applications.
